Teaching & Learning in Transition Year
As part of the Transition Year Programme in the Abbey Vocational School students study the following modules through out the year:
Irish, English, Theatre and Stage Studies, Maths, Woodwork, Business & Enterprise, Computer Studies, Arts & Craft, Physical Education, Video Production, Modern Languages, World of Science, Hotel, and Catering, Personal Development, Career Guidance, Environmental & Social Studies, Music, Active Leisure Studies, Jewellery Design, Cultural Studies and Architecture.
As well as formal academic studies, TY students will participate in work experience, personal skill development, community outreach, foreign educational trips, outdoor education trips, cultural experiences, visits by guest speakers, a variety of workshops and the opportunity to achieve national recognised certification such as Young Social Innovators, GAA Future Leaders and BT Young Scientist.
At the AVS, it is our intention to make every effort to bridge the gap in teaching and learning for students in TY this year due to the Covid period. There will be a strong emphasis on academic work in the programme this year especially in regards to the core subjects of Irish, English and Maths.
